Counter-theory: 'rogue' bank AI agents are user-authorized tools banks never approved
Severity 1Status unknownrumorFinanceAI-related

Peter Wildeford and others argue the Axios story describes customers handing credentials to consumer AI agents (shopping, bill-pay, budgeting tools) that then act in accounts, not autonomous intrusions; banks object because they did not approve the agents. One bank told reporters it had seen no rogue agents at all. Under this view the fix is read-only agent access and credential hygiene, not an attack response.

What to do: Banks moving to read-only agent access either way.

Why this score

Plausible and consistent with the banks' read-only access plans, but based on social commentary rather than bank disclosures.
