Trojanized Claude Code extension on Cursor's marketplace planted SSH backdoors, up to 5,000 users
Severity 7ResolvedconfirmedAI and software supply chainAI-related

A tampered anthropic.claude-code v2.1.313 (Microsoft also names 2.1.312) was served from Cursor's extension marketplace on Oct 29, about 09:27 to 20:35 UTC. It ran on startup, sent host details and the names of secret-looking environment variables to the attacker, added an attacker SSH key, tried to open a reverse tunnel, and set persistence. Cursor took the marketplace down, rotated keys and says at most 5,000 users were affected. Anthropic, Microsoft and Open VSX distribution were not affected; Anthropic says its systems were not compromised.

What to do: Nov 2: Cursor confirms two affected versions, 2.1.312 and 2.1.313 (Windows and macOS). SecurityWeek and Dark Reading coverage.
