ChainDrop worm poisons 800+ npm packages with 2 billion monthly downloads
Severity 7MitigatedconfirmedAI and software supply chainCredentials and personal data

After taking over the Keyv maintainer's GitHub account, attackers pushed a Shai-Hulud style worm that republished more than 868 packages (over 1,300 versions) with a preinstall hook that steals GitHub, npm, AWS, Kubernetes, Vault and cloud credentials and spreads to other maintainers' packages. Anyone who installed an affected version should rebuild the machine and rotate every secret.

What to do: Malicious versions removed; downstream credential theft consequences continue.
